Finding Hope and Structure Behind Bars
David
The time spent incarcerated in the Geauga County Jail was, for a long time, defined by isolation and introspection. It offered a stark opportunity to reflect on the paths that led me here, but the environment often made it difficult to find a constructive way forward, especially spiritually. This changed significantly because of the support and structure offered through the jail’s programs. The church services and particularly the Reformers Unanimous (RU) classes became an anchor in an otherwise tough season, providing not just routine, but a framework for spiritual discipline and hope that I hadn't known before.
A major contributor to this transformation was Chaplain Ethan. His commitment to leading those services and classes was profound, and his approach to teaching the Bible was both direct and deeply encouraging. During services, his sermons consistently spoke to the need for change and the possibility of redemption, making complex spiritual truths accessible, and most importantly giving the Gospel! In the RU classes, he fostered an environment of honesty and accountability that was essential for genuine growth. Because of Chaplain Ethan's dedicated guidance and the resources he provided, I began to truly understand and apply Christian principles, which has fundamentally helped my spiritual growth and provided a solid foundation for my life moving forward, which has continued even after my time of incarceration has finished.
